WHEATON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Extra police will be patrolling outside Wheaton schools Monday following an apparent “swatting” incident at one of them Monday.

Wheaton schools were closed for Presidents’ Day, but police did receive a threat of violence at Wheaton North High School. The city of Wheaton posted on Facebook that a 911 caller claimed to be armed with explosives and a gun intending to kill everyone at the school.

Police descended on the school, checked it out and found no one matching that description. People living within two blocks of the school had been advised to shelter in place for a short while.

Wheaton officials said other towns received similar false threats Monday. Police are going to continue to investigate to try to find the person behind the apparent “swatting” incident.
