MORTON GROVE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Cook County families were soaking up the sun in Morton Grove on Sunday to celebrate Earth Month.
“It’s a beautiful weekend to be out with the little one,” said Diana Juarez. “He just turned four.”
Juarez and her family were one of dozens who came out to celebrate Earth-a-Palooza at Linne Woods in Morton Grove.
Beside all of the family-friendly activities, such as bird walks and checking out county trucks, Juarez said she was excited to share the beauty of nature with her son.
“That’s something we look forward to, too, that our son understands that being outside is fun and just enjoying the nature around us is important,” she said.
Local Cook County Commissioner Josina Morita said the goal of Earth-a-Palooza, which marked its second year on Sunday, was to celebrate the earth and emphasize to families the role we play in protecting it.
“We hope they just learn to love the forest preserves, really,” Morita said. “There’s so much to love, and every family is different on what they want to do and what they care about. Hopefully they come out here for the first time, [and] it’s not their last time. They make it a habit to come out here and engage with nature.”
Earth-a-Palooza also featured various climate-focused organizations, along with nature and bird walks, and a visit from Brookfield Zoo animals.
