GARY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The story of a purportedly haunted house in Gary, Indiana that was the subject of a documentary will be on the screen again thanks to Netflix.

The so-called “Demon House” first made news in 2014, when the Indianapolis Star published an article about the unexplainable things happened to the Ammons family, who lived there.

Following the news, ghost researcher Zak Bagans bought the house, located at 3860 Carolina St. in Gary, to film the "Demon House" movie, which documented the alleged paranormal attacks and demonic possession from 2011 to 2012 of the Ammons family.

He later had the house torn down in February 2016, but according to the Calumet Township assessor's office, he still owns the property to this day, the Northwest Indiana Times reported.

Now, Netflix is producing a film about the "Demon House." According to Deadline, seven companies, including MGM and Miramax, made bids last Monday for the movie package. Netflix's $65 million bid won.

Oscar nominee Lee Daniels will be directing the movie. It will star Andra Day, Octavia Spencer, Glenn Close, Rob Morgan, Caleb McLaughlin, and Aunjanue Ellis, Deadline reported. Production is set to begin by the middle of this year.
