BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Three hundred Bolingbrook community members are gathering next week to help put together the village's first mosaic.

The idea for the mosaic was born out of pandemic conversations.

"We really haven't had much public art. When COVID hit, that was one focus area, we wanted to really highlight," said Mithra Zaucha, Chairperson for the Bolingbrook Arts Council.

She said the council wanted the "community to take ownership" of the mosaic and asked for input and ideas for the design from community members.

"The two main design ideas that were the most important to everyone was like a timeless representation of Bolingbrook, which is captured in the colors," Zaucha explained.

"The second component was the diversity of the community and that is going to be portrayed in different languages of the word 'welcome' throughout the mosaic."

The piece is expected to be up and ready for viewing at the village Town Center by the beginning of summer.
