(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A judge has denied bail for a 37-year-old man accused of shooting a 12-year-old boy outside a Garfield Park library Tuesday evening.
Prosecutors say 37-year-old Adam Avizius has a string of seven felony convictions on his record.
On Tuesday night in front of the Legler library branch, prosecutors say Avizius got into a fight with a 16-year-old. He then allegedly pointed a gun at the teenager, who ran toward a group of other children.
In that group of kids was a 12-year-old boy.
Prosecutors say Avizius fired five rounds, hitting the 16-year-old in the leg and the 12-year-old in the lower back. He was charged with aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm.
In bond court, the judge said: "There's no lawful justification for (Avizius) to even have the possession of a firearm that day, let alone find himself in front of a Chicago public library, shooting his weapon in the direction of children."
The 12-year-old boy is still in the ICU and could face additional surgeries, his family told WBBM Newsradio earlier this week.
