(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — At the corner of Ridge and Ardmore, right in front of Senn High School, a new sign reads “Honorary William Friedkin Way.”

“I think it is so fitting because Billy truly did do everything his way,” said South Side native and former Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox CEO Sherry Lansing.

She said her late husband, best known for directing “The Exorcist” and “The French Connection,”  was never shy about his love for his hometown of Chicago or his alma mater.

“He was the mass marauder at Senn, meaning he used to put on a mask and was the mischievous kid that used to throw the erasers up in the air. Somehow or another, he still graduated with honors. All I can say is that his personality was formed at Senn,” Lansing said.

Jack Friedkin says the honor would mean the world to his Dad.

“This street sign is not merely a symbol. It’s a testament to his enduring spirit, his unwavering determination and his relentless pursuit of excellence. It’s a reminder to all who pass by of the power of dreams and the transformative force of passion.”

The unveiling did need a second take after the first one was unsuccessful.

“That’s coming from Billy! He would’ve thought this was really funny!” Lansing said, laughing at the failed first attempt.
