CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Union workers at a popular North Side club have called a boycott, and they want others to join their fight.
Union Workers with Unite Here Local 1 and their supporters gathered outside Berlin Nightclub calling for a boycott as they push for their first contract.
Leo Sampson who is a social media worker for the club was among them.
"We are understaffed, underpaid and sick of being made to feel guilty for asking for a livable wage and better working conditions," he said.
"Until this boycott is over, please do not come to Berlin."
The workers want higher wages and better benefits and they're finding support among the club's performers including Irregular Girl.
"I and 200 other performers proudly endorse the boycott of Berlin," she said.
In response to the boycott, the owners of Berlin released a statement saying in part the additional wages, healthcare and pension benefits the union wants would cost the club about half a million dollars in the first year of the contract, and that is something they say they can not afford.
