HIGHLAND, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An off-duty conservation officer is being credited with helping to save the life of a Northwest Indiana man, who stopped breathing and didn't have a pulse.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said one of its conservation officers, Alex Neel, was driving near the corner of Ridge Road and Indianapolis Boulevard in Highland on Monday when he saw several people starting to perform CPR on a man who had been removed from a vehicle.
Investigators said Neel stopped, pulled over, and took over the CPR, before a nurse and three Highland police officers also pulled over to help.
An ambulance soon arrived, and paramedics used a device to shock the man's heart until he was breathing again and he had a pulse.
The ambulance then took the man to a hospital, where doctors said he was doing well.
