CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - No one was hurt on the South Side this morning following a shootout that involved an off-duty Chicago Police officer.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m., at 108th and Campbell, in the Beverly neighborhood. The off-duty officer was approached by multiple armed suspects and gunfire broke out, police said.

No one was hit.

Police said the suspects then left the scene, jumping into a dark-colored sedan. One person was eventually “detained” near the scene.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) has already begun to investigate the shooting. Per department protocol, the off-duty officer involved will be placed on administrative desk duties for a minimum of 30 days.

In addition to this incident, Chicago Police confirmed officers were deployed this morning to 112th Place and Carpenter, a little more than two miles from the Beverly shooting.

It’s unclear if there is any connection between the two.
