CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There were several tributes to fallen Chicago Police Officer Ella French on Sunday, both in the air and on the ground.
The first was done by U.S. Navy Blue Angels, as part of their performance over the lakefront.
As the demonstration squad flew over the city, they were carrying a piece of Officer Ella French: her police star - number 15013 - was aboard one of the Super Hornets.
The U.S. Navy Blue Angels performed this weekend as part of the city's reimagined Air and Water Show due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Also on Sunday, the Chicago Police Department shared a memorial video on Twitter in her honor.
The video begins with dispatch radio clips and the recollections of Chicago Police dispatcher Keith Thornton. According to CBS 2, he directed officers following the traffic stop shooting in which Officer French was killed.
The video also includes several clips from Officer French’s visitation and funeral Mass, including her mother's eulogy. She was laid to rest Saturday at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery.
Additionally, Officer French was on the minds of many of the 5,000 people doing the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation’s Run to Remember that ended in the Gold Star Families Park. The annual event honors officers killed in the line of duty. French’s picture was posted at the end of a long row of nearly 600 police officers who have been killed.
