Oilers hire Stan Bowman as their new general manager

(670 The Score) It didn’t take former Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman long to find a new job after being reinstated for employment by the NHL.

Fresh off a trip to the Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers have hired Bowman as their new general manager and executive vice president of hockey operations, the team announced Wednesday morning. Bowman’s hiring came three weeks after the NHL reinstated Bowman for employment on July 1. Bowman had been banned by the NHL since October 2021, when he lost his job for his “inadequate” response to allegations that former Blackhawks player Kyle Beach had been sexually assaulted by a member of the organization in 2010.

Bowman, 51, served as the Blackhawks' general manager from 2009-'21, guiding the team to its three championships from the front office. Chicago was 493-310-109 in his tenure. He resigned following the findings of an independent investigation into Beach's allegations. Bowman had worked in the Blackhawks’ front office since 2001.

In Edmonton, Bowman will take over a talented team that reached Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final, where it lost to the Florida Panthers.

“I am excited and pleased to be welcoming Stan to the Edmonton Oilers," Oilers CEO of hockey operations Jeff Jackson said in a statement. "I believe his vast experience and proven success in this role, together with the important work he has done in his time away from the game, fits our goal of being best in class when it comes to all facets of our organization. Through our many conversations, we share a common vision of where we are as a team and what is required to achieve another Stanley Cup title.”
