(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – An interactive toy that was cutting edge decades ago is making a return to the marketplace with many more bells and whistles.
Hasbro announced Thursday that it is reintroducing Furby to a new generation of children. The old Furby – a hot holiday toy in the late-1990s – was a fuzzy robotic creature that made gibberish and farting sounds, blinked and moved its ears.
The next-gen Furby has several more abilities, including 600 responses and 10 unique songs, the manufacturer says. It can be synched up with your smart phone or tablet, one observer says.
“It is a pure nostalgia play with more integrated technology than we’ve ever seen before, and it could be equal parts adorable, annoying and incredibly creepy,” Jennifer Jolly, tech life columnist for USA Today, told the Noon Business Hour.
The redesigned Furby is expected to be on shelves next month.
