CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The controversial Chicago Police gang database is being shut down.
There has been a lot of criticism of the database. It’s riddled with mistakes, according to reports from the Chicago Inspector General’s office.
People were not notified that they were in the database. Furthermore, there is no process to appeal and no way to get off the list.
For one person, occupation was listed as “loser.” 95 percent of the people entered in the database are black or Latino.
Anthony Driver Jr., president of the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability, which decided the database has to go, spoke to CBS 2.
"I viewed it as a very racist and discriminatory tool," he said, "It was one that was only about 3 percent accurate."
Over the years, nearly 135,000 names have been entered into the database.
