(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A south suburban man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing an urn that contained the ashes of an infant boy, prosecutors said.

During an Elmhurst home burglary in late 2019, the intruder made off with items that included an urn with the cremains of a child. It was the ashes of the home owners’ infant son.

DuPage County prosecutors said 68-year-old Glenn Addison of Harvey was arrested at his home soon after the break-in. Addison pleaded guilty to residential burglary earlier this month.

He was on parole for a 2014 burglary when he burglarized the home in Elmhurst, prosecutors said.

“The fact that Mr. Addison stole an urn containing the ashes of a deceased infant, which offered absolutely no monetary value to him, demonstrates the utter callousness of his actions and his complete disregard for the sanctity of human life,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release Tuesday.

Prosecutors said Addison will be eligible for parole after serving half of his 15-year sentence.

The ashes of the child were returned to the parents.
