CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood is getting a new, larger-than-life mural that celebrates the immigrant experience.

Artists are working to finish the project on the sidewall of Carnitas Don Pedro, a longtime restaurant in the heavily Latino community.

"Most of the people on this mural are still alive," one of the artists, Mateo Zapata, told WBBM Newsradio's Brandon Ison Monday.

The idea was to honor immigrants who comprise the community, adds Pablo Serrano.

"It's fruit in its fullest sense," he said. "All of these individuals represent different hopes and dreams."
