The Chicago-area once again welcomes another generation of piping plovers

Great Lakes Piping Plovers Monty and Rose began nesting at Chicago's Montrose Beach in 2019. Now seven years later, their son, Imani, has been spotted with Sea Rocket and their first egg over the weekend. This is the pair's third season.


And in Waukegan, plovers Pippin and Blaze have started the journey of becoming a family with an egg. New dad, Pippin, survived losing a foot last year and has found a mate in Blaze.

Piping plovers nearly went extinct in the Great Lakes region. Last year, a record 88 nesting pairs were spotted in the area, according to the Great Lakes Piping Plovers organization.
