(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in west suburban Winfield are asking people to be on watch for a suspicious man who allegedly tried to abduct a teenaged girl.

Around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, there was an attempted abduction near the walking path on the east end of Beecher Avenue, police said. A man between 25 to 35 years old approached the girl from behind and chased her.

The 13-year old girl’s mother said on Facebook that the teen ran to a nearby house and hid behind a pile of wood as the man continued looking for her.

A woman who lives in the house came out and chased the man away, the parent reported.

The suspect was wearing black clothing. The mother said on social media the man had pulled a ski mask over his face before chasing her daughter.

Winfield Police ask people in the area to check their security videos so that surveillance images of the suspect can be distributed.
