On Monday, Lake County's sheriff's deputies for hours could not find a boy reported missing in unincorporated Zion.
Then Deputy Kevin Lowe and his K9 Loki joined the search in the wooded area.
Using the scent from the child's shoe, Loki led Lowe to a large area of thick brush and started barking.
Deputies entered the brush and located the 12-year-old boy.
"You can't replicate a K9's nose," Lowe said. "You could have all of this technology, but you can't replicate that and what they're capable of doing."
The Lake County Sheriff's Office says last year, K9 teams helped find 35 missing people and criminal suspects.
