CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two students from Simeon High School were shot and killed in separate incidents this week and police are asking for the public’s help in finding their killers.
Jamari Williams, 15, was just blocks from Simeon High School - at a shopping center on 83rd and Holland - when he was shot to death Tuesday afternoon.
"He was standing outside with several of his friends after school and a gunman had approached and began firing, and then fled the scene; so we need a lot of help in this case," said Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan.
Three hours later, fellow Simeon sophomore Kentrell McNeal was killed on 51st and Harper.
"This individual was at a gas station with his friends. They were pumping gas when they saw another group of individuals near a McDonald’s. And, at that point, two groups were, basically, kind of staring at each other. This group that the victim was in got in their car to flee and a member from the other group shot and caused this victim’s death," Deenihan said.
Deenihan said there are some promising leads in that shooting on 51st and Harper that left teenager Kentrell McNeal dead.
He said there may be a social media motive to one of the shootings, but he would not say which one.
