Southwest suburban restaurant closes after serving 'generations of families' for 50 years

ORLAND PARK, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A restaurant in the southwest suburbs has turned out the lights after more than 50 years in business.

The owners of Petey’s II Restaurant, located at 96th Avenue and 159th Street in Orland Park, announced that the restaurant, which was founded by Petey and Mary Kattos in 1969, has closed.

The owners described the eatery as "more than just a restaurant."

"It has been a gathering place for families and friends, a site for celebrations, and a testament to the enduring spirit of Orland Park's culinary scene," the statement said.

"Through the years, we have had the privilege of witnessing generations of families come together at our tables to celebrate special occasions, milestones, holidays, nights out and family dining traditions."

Petey's II was known for its steaks and having a supper club experience.

The restaurant owners said the decision to close comes in the wake of “significant changes within the restaurant industry” and approaching retirement for Petey.

The owner's original location, Petey’s Bungalow, in Oak Lawn, will remain open and will honor gift certificates for Petey's II.
