(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 52-year-old postal employee was shot Tuesday afternoon during a pair of armed robberies targeting mail carriers on the Northwest Side, say authorities who are offering a reward of up to $50,000 to track down the persons responsible.
Officials say the letter carrier who was wounded was approached by robbers around 3:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of North Kildare. Fire officials said the carrier was shot in the back of the leg and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
The carrier was stabilized, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said in a bulletin.
About 15 minutes later, a second mail carrier was robbed in the 1800 block of North Sawyer, authorities say.
Postal officials released surveillance images of a getaway car used in the robberies. It's a stolen white Kia sedan with Illinois license plate BF73931.
Police say no one's in custody. Postal inspectors offering the reward are asking anyone with information to call 877-876-2455.
