CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After securing his second term, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said he's only focused on being governor of Illinois.
Questions, though, have been growing about whether his sights are set beyond Springfield — toward a presidential run — especially after Prtizker's remarks following his 2022 Illinois midterm victory.
On Tuesday night Pritzker touched on national subjects like women's rights and warned against conservative extremism led by former President Donald Trump.
During his post-election remarks Wednesday morning, the governor said he was simply expressing his values.
"I tried to make clear throughout the last year and in my reelection bid what it is we Democrats stand for and also to point out what Republicans stand for," Pritzker said. "They are a party that is run by Donald Trump."
Pritzker was asked directly if he's planning a presidential run.
"I am not focused on that at all," he said. "I am focused on serving as governor for the next four years. We have too many things that we need to accomplish for the state."
That includes correcting Illinois' financial situation and securing Chicago to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention.
