(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police are investigating how thousands of dollars went missing from a northwest suburban school PTA bank account.
Nearly $13,000 was discovered missing from the bank account of the Sanborn Elementary School PTA in Palatine bank account recently, said John Butler, who was brought in as treasurer afterward.
Less than $200 was left in the account, he said.
“The police are investigating, so I really can’t get too far into it,” Butler said.
Palatine police say they’re waiting for evidence to come back before deciding on any charges.
Butler said the PTA had big end-of-the-year plans, including giving teachers $80 for supplies, as well as for prizes for the student dance-a-thon.
So far, about $3,400 has been raised through crowdsourcing.
