CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson’s successor is reported to be a pastor from Dallas.

Taking the reins of the Rainbow Push Coalition is the Rev. Frederick Douglass Haynes III, a senior pastor at West Baptist Church in Dallas.

He told the Chicago Tribune, when Jackson approached him about taking over he was “blown away.”

Haynes said he has been a student and follower of Jackson’s.

He said, “of all of the degrees I may have, I must also confess that I’ve studied at the University of Jesse Jackson.”

For his part, Jackson, who’s 81, said he’s not retiring completely and will
remain active in civil rights issues.
