CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Midlothian firefighter is planning a motorcycle ride on Aug. 21 that’s a fundraiser for suicide prevention in the south suburbs and he’s hoping for a big turnout.
This ride is personal for Kevin Kelly.
“We had one of our guys in our department commit suicide on June 4, 2013. Kind of affected me in a weird way,” Kelly told WBBM Newsradio.
This is the seventh annual ride he calls "A Road to Help," which aims to raise awareness for suicide prevention and post-traumatic stress syndrome for first responders and veterans.
"We actually have three charities that we donate to. We donate 100% of our profits,” Kelly said.
The charities include the Illinois Firefighter Peer Support, Wounded Warriors in Action and Forever You, which is focused on teen suicide and teen bullying.
Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 21 at the Office Sports Bar and Grill in Crestwood and makes several stops along a 100-mile stretch before an afterparty at the American Legion Post in New Lennox.
