CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Rivian R1T has been crowned the MotorTrend Truck of the Year for 2022 and is made at Rivian's plant in Normal.
John McElroy, automotive industry analyst and host of Auto Line-dot-tv in Detroit, told the WBBM Noon Business Hour that the R1T is just one entry in an increasingly crowded electric truck space.
"You know first it was Tesla with the Cybertruck. Then Ford with the F-150 Lightening," McElroy said.
He said the Ford electric truck is so popular it has cut off new orders to keep up with demand. McElroy said electric trucks are winning over drivers who may not be considered traditional electric car owners.
"Who would've thunk that owners who love their gasoline and diesel engines in their pickups, that so many of them would be interested in an electric pickup," McElroy said.
