UPDATE: Clean up complete after rolled over semi on Inbound Kennedy wreaks havoc on morning commute

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - This morning’s commute on the Kennedy Expressway was frustrating for drivers heading downtown.

A rolled over semi in the inbound lanes caused a nightmarish delay, with cleanup lasting for over four hours.

The accident occurred at around 4:20 a.m. on the inbound Kennedy near the Edens Junction. The semi, carrying 30,000lbs of produce, overturned and began leaking fuel. IDOT crews closed the two left lanes to get the truck upright as well as clean up the spill.

Traffic become quite congested past O’Hare. Multiple lanes were still closed at the Edens. At its worst, the travel time from O'Hare into downtown reached 1 hour and 27 minutes. As of 7 a.m., travel time on the Inbound Kennedy, from O’Hare into downtown, was a staggering 1 hour and 27 minutes.

As the morning commute was wrapping up, crews cleared the crash. As of 10 a.m., there was however an intermittent closure in the far left lane, with repairs being made to road left damaged by the overturned semi.
