CHICAGO (WBBM Newsradio) -- Big expansion plans have been announced at two Chicago-area hospitals by the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

They include opening a Ronald McDonald House at Prentice Women's Hospital downtown, as well as a Ronald McDonald Family Room at Advocate Children's Hospital in Park Ridge.

Holly Buckendahl, the CEO of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, says the new facilities will help thousands of parents every year stay close to their hospitalized children.

Corporate partners will help raise the four-and-a-half million dollars needed for the projects, but Buckendahl says people in the Chicago-area are also being asked to donate money, as well as volunteer at the facilities and donate needed items.
