CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Saint Sabina senior pastor Father Michael Pfleger is, once again, being accused of sexually abusing a child more than 30 years ago.

A man in his 40s claimed Father Michael Pfleger sexually abused him during choir practice back in the late 1980s, and now Pfleger has been removed from public ministry while an investigation is conducted.

Pfleger said in a statement the allegation is false. He added that the process is so unfair and painful to him and to the community he serves.

Meanwhile, at Mass at Saint Sabina Sunday, Father Tom Walsh told Pfleger over the livestream that his congregation supports him.

“Father Mike, this is your army,” Walsh said. “These are your warriors. This is the persistence of a people who believe in the power of God who have faith and who want you to know that you’re not going to go through this alone.”

Pfleger was accused in early 2021 with sexually abusing a different young boy. Those allegations were not found to be true, and the priest was returned to ministry after a five-month absence.

“Father Mike, I know you’re watching,” Walsh said. “We love you. Go ahead and say that. We love you, Father Michael Pfleger.”
