(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Veteran Illinois Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky will serve another term in office.
She carried an overwhelming majority of the vote at 70% over Republican challenger Maxwell Rice, according to the Associated Press.

Schakowsky assumed office in 1999 and represents the 9th district. Recently, she was A co-sponsor of the Afghan Adjustment Act, which allows certain evacuees to apply for permanent status, one year after the Taliban takeover. Schakowsky also sponsored a new law that would decrease DUI deaths.
Rice previously ran for Congress in 2018. This time, according to his campaign website, he wanted to end one-party rule and radical agendas, push for clean water, air, and topsoil and raise the standard of education for kids.
