(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A shooting in a residential area of suburban Schaumburg left one person wounded and led to a barricade situation, police officials said on Wednesday.
Schaumburg Police Commander Christy Lindhurst told WBBM it was a fluid situation on the 800 block of South Braintree Drive, where the shooting was reported Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday evening, police shared on Facebook that a preliminary investigation revealed that there was a dispute over noise between a resident and a tree trimmer.
The tree trimmer suffered a gunshot wound and the resident remains barricaded in his home. Lindhurst said responding officers provided first aid to the shooting victim, who has been taken to a hospital for treatment.
Close to 10 p.m., another update was shared, stating that the suspect had been taken into custody after surrendering peacefully, ending a nearly 6 hours long barricade situation.
No further injuries were reported as a result of the incident. An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
The area remains closed as the investigation continues. Officials said updates would be given on social media.
