CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Adler Planetarium is the place to be tonight for any science lover with questions of the stars.
That’s because the American Geophysical Union (AGU) is currently holding its fall conference in Chicago.
“There are 16,000 scientists from all over the world in town to talk science and talk shop,” said Michelle Nichols, Adler’s Director of Public Observing and an AGU member.
Nichols said about 50 AGU scientists will be visiting the planetarium Wednesday for a very special Adler at Night.
“This is your chance to interact directly with scientists and science-minded educators who are doing fun things to explain the science,” she said.
Some of the scientists even have firsthand knowledge of spacecrafts and missions.
“These are folks from the jet propulsion lab at NASA; they're from NASA's flight facility,” Nichols said. “Come see the life-sized model of the rover. Come talk directly to the people who make the rover happen.”
The event is taking place at an exciting time for science, Nichols added.
“Astronauts going to and from the space station on a regular basis, the Perseverance Rover, the Ingenuity Helicopter, the Artemis mission to the moon that will eventually land people back on the moon,” she said. “It's just amazing how much is going on right now.”
Wednesday night’s events will run from 6 – 9 p.m. It's open to the public and free to Illinois residents, but tickets must be reserved in advance online.
