Semi truck catches fire on Bishop Ford, inbound lanes closed at 130th

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A semitrailer carrying tires caught fire below an overpass Tuesday morning on the Bishop Ford Expressway, shutting down all but one of the inbound lanes at 130th Street.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the truck’s cab caught fire at about 5:30 a.m. in the right lane of Interstate 94 under the 130th Street bridge. It was blocking center and right inbound lanes near Doty Road, CBS 2 reported.

The fire then spread to the tires, which were “very hard” to put out, department spokesman Larry Langford said.

The blaze was extinguished within an hour and there were no reported injuries.

The far left lane of inbound I-94 near 130th Street is open to traffic, but all other lanes are closed, Illinois State police said. The blaze was put out at about 6:30 a.m.

This is a developing story. Check back for details.
