CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two men were shot and killed at Navy Pier on Tuesday, in an attack that prompted Chicago police to issue a shelter-in-place order.

Officials said the shooting happened in the loading dock area at about 2 p.m. Both men were taken in critical condition to a Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Chicago Police Chief of Patrol Jon Hein said officers are "actively pursuing" a person-of-interest in the shooting.

The person of interest is believed to have been a former employee who worked at Navy Pier, officials said.

Hein said the department offered its condolences to the victims, their families and their loved ones.

He added that it is very early in the police department's investigation. Hein described the shooting, though, as an isolated incident.
