CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A public meeting is planned for tomorrow night to discuss temporarily housing migrants at Wright College on Chicago’s Northwest Side.

38th Ward Alderman Nick Sposato is hosting the community meeting at Wright College, where he said upwards of 400 migrants and asylum seekers will be housed in June and July. He told CBS-2 having people sleep in police stations isn’t working.

“That’s the one thing I find the most difficult to believe, that on August 1, if they don’t have a place to house these people, they’re going to say, ‘sorry folks, you’re on the street or you’re going back to the police station,’” Sposato said.

Alderman Sposato told the station after that the city could house migrants at South Shore High School, but knows the idea was unpopular at a meeting there.

He said the current situation of housing them at police stations is affecting public safety.

“It’s not fair to the police. It’s not fair to the migrants,” Sposato added.

Some neighbors have filed a suit to block the city’s plan.
