SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Plans are coming together for the state to finally unload the James R. Thompson Center, which houses offices for the Illinois state government.
State Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, who chairs the committee hearing this update, had positive words for the Department of Central Management Services, engineering the move of hundreds of state workers elsewhere in the city.
"It makes sense to put like minded departments in the county building and other areas where it makes sense. So thank you for that. You know, innovation in government is not something we see and it's quite apparent that your department is innovative and being very concise with this move," Kifowit said.
The state will consider two sealed bids for the much unloved 17-story building and a mouthwatering location surrounded by Clark, Lake, LaSalle and Randolph streets downtown.
