(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Illinois State Police is offering more options to get Firearm Owners Identification cards as the agency continues to chip away at a backlog of applications.
A new in-person service option is geared toward people who don’t have Internet access.
State police have set up three kiosks for residents to apply for FOID cards or renew them. The district offices in Lockport and Du Quoin as well as ISP headquarters in Springfield are open weekdays to handle things such as entering information, taking pictures and revising rejected applications.
Staff at the kiosks will not be able to assist walk-ups with revoked or denied FOID card or concealed-carry licenses, state police said. Those must be addressed online.
The Firearms Services Bureau had 138,000 renewals waiting for approval last November. State police say they have cut the backlog by 89% for renewals and 75% for new applications.
