CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After being closed last summer due to COVID-19, suburban water parks will once again reopen to the public.

Coral Cove in Carol Stream plans to welcome back swimmers on May 29.

“The staff is super excited to bring the water park back to the town and try to return to that normal summer happenings for families,” said Renee Bachewicz, director of recreation for the Carol Stream Park District.

Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state, the park district is loosening some of its coronavirus restrictions.

Fully vaccinated visitors will not be required to wear masks when outdoors.

“Face coverings continue to be required for anyone who is nonvaccinated, including any children between the ages of 2 and 12, and face coverings will still be required for anything indoors,” said Bachewicz.

Coral Cove will also operate under a 400 person capacity limit, and visitors will need to reserve a time slot online at csparks.org.

“We’re going to have two time slots available for residents and nonresidents to come and sign up for. We’re set up with an 'AM' time slot that gives swimmers the opportunity to come between 10:30 and 2:30 and then a 'PM' time slot from 3:00 to 8:00,” she said.

Other park district water parks including Atcher Island in Schaumburg will reopen Memorial Day weekend, while Sea Lion Aquatic Park in Lisle starts its season June 5.
