GARY, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A SWAT team shot a man to death in Gary Tuesday afternoon following what started as a domestic incident.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Glen Fifield said there were a number of 911 hang up calls from a home on the 1500 block of Chase Street. It was about 3 p.m.
When police arrived, a woman ran out and said there was an armed man inside.
The officers tried to talk him out. A hostage negotiator and the SWAT team arrived. The negotiator spent a half hour talking to the man.
Fifield didn’t elaborate about the “sequence of events.” A witness said more than 20 shots were fired. It’s unclear whether the man fired his weapon.
State police are investigating the incident.
