CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The amusement tax is going up in suburban Rosemont and that’s going to hit people when they buy tickets to events there.

A one-percentage point increase in the amusement tax, from 3% to 4%, is expected to generate as much as $1 million a year for the village of Rosemont.

Mayor Brad Stephens told the Daily Herald the money will be used to pay for the auxiliary police unit which is used to staff traffic and crowd control positions at events.

A lot of people quit those jobs during the pandemic and Stephens said the village is looking into hiring a private firm to handle those duties.

Stephens said the tax will go up on tickets bought starting March 1.
