(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Almost six weeks after publicly complaining about conditions in their apartment buildings, some Chatham tenants say the problems persist.

Carlos Banks says efforts to address issues in his apartment near 79th and Prairie have been done in a patchwork manner. He said mold has regrown on freshly repainted walls, and water comes out brown.

In January, Marmita Dunnigan talked about the locks being changed on her door and broken hallway lights. She said things got worse, so she moved out last month.

BSD Realty said it remedied the mold complaint after individual assessments, had carpet professionally installed and spent $50,000 to upgrade the heating system. A new boiler will be installed.

In a statement the company says it has a positive relationship with 85% of tenants. But BSD said a small group refuses to pay rent, with some not allowing workers in to make repairs or even denying remodeling work has been done in their units.
