Chicagoans are all quite familiar with the rumble of the "L" through the city, but a new study determines which line is the noisiest.
It appears the Blue Line is a city's noisiest train. The stretch of track between Chicago and Grand stops in the caverns of the Milwaukee Dearborn substation is the single loudest point on the "L" system, according to a new University of Illinois Chicago study. It rate at nearly 89 decibels, when most noise levels on the Blue Line are close to 77, which is significantly higher than most all other elevated lines in the city.
