(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — They’re lined up outside El Milagro Tortillas in Little Village because reportedly there is a tortilla shortage.
Sometimes the line stretches around the block on 26th Street near Albany.
People say they cannot find tortillas in the stores.
So, they come here to the source: El Milagro.
“They say they’re short on staff. They haven’t mentioned really what the real issue is,” one customer told WBBM Newsradio’s Steve Miller on Thursday.
Customers are limited to 20 packages per person. A dozen tortillas per package.
“I have a big family. I’ve got nine kids, plus me and my wife, the cat and the dog. So, these 20 packs of tortillas are only going to last a couple of days,” said Rafael Colon of south suburban Justice.
“So we’ll be back in a couple days to get another 20.”
For him, it’s an hour round trip just to get tortillas.
Is it worth it?
“Yeah. I love tortillas.”
Attempts to speak with officials at El Milagro were unsuccessful.
