(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Officials in Tinley Park are promising good food, fun and security at their first-ever Ribfest this holiday weekend.

Ribfest runs from Saturday through Tuesday at the Tinley Metra station at 80th Avenue.
The event culminates with a fireworks show on Tuesday night.

Village manager Pat Carr says a lot has gone into making the event a safe one.

“We’re going to have a perimeter fence around the whole festival,” he said. “We’ll have checkpoints up. We’ll have magnetometers, bag checks.”

A mob of teenagers caused chaos in May at a Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce carnival. Carr says Ribfest will be a family event.

“We will provide safe environment for that and, if somebody wants to try to come here and create chaos, we’ll meet that chaos with a measured response,” he said.

Tinley Park Mayor Mike Glotz says there’ll be seven rib vendors, plus musical bands every day. Carnival rides will be geared towards very young children.

Tinley Park’s Ribfest runs from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. There is an admission charge to get in.
