(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Alissa Tadic was a lifestyle blogger when she was inspired to start a business after receiving balloon garland kits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I looked at my husband after messing around with these balloon garlands and I was like, ‘I think I want to start a balloon company,’” Tadic said. “And he was like … great idea."
In May 2020, she launched Twee Partees, a luxury balloon boutique with a unique backstory.
"My uncle is from England, and I guess in England, twee kind of means just ‘too cute for words, over the top,’ so it just kind of makes sense for balloons, right?" Tadic said.
Using large, colorful balloons, she started creating custom pieces for every occasion.
"From your friend having a bad day to a surgery, a birthday or baby shower," said Tadic. We've also done weddings."
Much like her balloons, Tadic's business blew up.
In two years, Twee went from an in-home operation to a brick-and-mortar in the Geneva Commons.

Step inside and you'll find everything from helium bouquets to air-filled organic garlands and paper party goods.
Not only does Twee offer on-site installations, but Tadic said they're known for their grab-and-go displays.
"So people can just pull right up to the store,” she said. “We give them a 90-second video on how to install it with hooks that come with it."
Tadic said her mission, since the start of the pandemic, has remained the same: bringing smiles to peoples' faces.
"It makes me emotional still talking about it because we were so sad, and balloons made everyone so happy," she said.
