Two people, pets perish in far northwest suburban house fire

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two adults and two pets were found dead at the scene of the house fire in far northwest suburban Marengo on Tuesday morning, officials said.

Firefighters responded around 4 a.m. to the 9600 block of Knolltop Road in unincorporated Union after a passerby reported a flames coming from a residence, the Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts said in a news release.

Fifteen neighboring fire agencies helped fight the fire, which was knocked out within 30 minutes, officials said.

Firefighters located two adult victims inside the house, both of whom where pronounced dead at the scene. Two pets – a dog and a cat – also died.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office, officials said.
