CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have been practicing along the lakefront preparing for this weekend’s abbreviated performances.
Necks were craned along the lakefront and the sound of the Navy’s F/A 18 Hornets shattered the relative quiet.
People WBBM Newsradio talked to were thrilled to see the Blue Angels return, tourists and city dwellers, alike, including former Chicagoans Ed and Sue Olsen.
"Wonderful. Yes, it's a great day in Chicago..." Sue Olsen said.
WBBM: 27 years in the Navy, so you have a personal connection to these planes?
"Oh yes. I've been at sea with an aircraft carrier with an aircraft. It's great. A day like today, you're at sea, you say 'I wish I was a pilot.' But then you're at sea and it's a terrible day, and you say, 'I'm glad I'm not a pilot," Ed Olsen said.
WBBM: What do you think of the Blue Angels going by?
"It's great. It's great. You don't get tired of this, do ya?" Ed Olsen said.
Many of us do not...
WBBM: Are you ladies excited to see the Blue Angels in the sky again?
"Yes!"
WBBM: Talk to me about it. What do you think?
"I don't know, I've never seen them before, because I am not from here," said one woman.
WBBM: Are you happy to see the Blue Angels over the sky in the Chicago?
"Oh yeah! I am so glad. At least they could spare us the highlight of the show, huh? So it's great to catch them once again. Welcome back blue boys! Fly high and make lots of noise," said Pinny Currier, who lives in a high rise here along the lakefront.
