CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It’s taken over a year, but the City Colleges of Chicago and the Cook County Teachers Union (CCCTU) have reached a tentative agreement.

As a result, Wednesday’s planned strike has been called off.

In a press release, union leadership announced the tentative agreement will last four years and will include salary increases, smaller class sizes, and a plan to “assess student and community needs.”

Members are expected to vote on the agreement in the next few weeks. The CCCTU comprises 4,000 members at 14 community colleges across Cook County.

“I’m incredibly proud of our members for standing strong throughout this long process,” said CCCTU President Tony Johnston. “City Colleges faculty and professions are committed to our students and each other; together we fought for what our students need and faculty and professionals deserve. And we won.”

Union officials said the agreement was reached late Sunday night.

The City Colleges of Chicago has not responded to WBBM’s request for comment.
