(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's Water Reclamation District says they don't know where water seen coming from the Centennial Fountain over the weekend originated.

The fountain on the Chicago River has not been operating since May 2020, after its equipment was flooded by record rainfall and high lake levels.

"We don’t know where the water in that video was coming from yesterday. It was not coming from Centennial Fountain as the fountain is still undergoing repairs," the district said in a news release Monday.

A design for replacing the damaged equipment has been completed, and construction is expected to begin later this year. The project is expected to take 24 months to complete.

"While this fountain has no impact on actual MWRD operations, we understand that the public receives great enjoyment from it, and we all look forward to seeing it placed back into service," officials said.
