The 26-year-old was traveling home around 1 a.m. Saturday morning near Salt Lake City when the accident happened, according to Utah Highway Patrol, USA Today reported.

Angelica Dhondup was in her Toyota Corolla when she was hit head-on by the pickup truck. Dhondup suffered fatal injuries while a 20-year-old female passenger had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Dhondup was taking her cousin home with her to drop off wedding presents following the reception, according to family members, KSL-TV reported. The bride was still in her wedding dress when the collision happened.

Following the crash, Dhondup's friend Tayler Craft said Dhondup had called her sister to say she was hurt and having difficulty breathing before she died from the injuries.

"She can't even go to her honeymoon. She can't even come home to her kids," Craft said to KSL. "She just got married five hours ago."

The driver and a passenger in the pickup were helped out of their vehicle by a passerby. The driver then stole the passerby's truck before officers caught him, authorities said, USA Today reported.

The passenger fled on foot but ended up returning to the scene.

Manaure Gonazalez-Rea, the 36-year-old identified as the driver, was arrested and taken to Salt Lake County Jail. Currently, Gonzalez-Rea was charged with a DUI, automobile homicide, criminal negligence DUI, reckless driving, and failure to remain at an accident involving death and theft, court records said. Beer cans were found at the crash.
